Now, about BLTC: It will be hard, but I’ll try to be brief. Husband, James, was a wine sommelier who moved to Texas and worked for a 5 star restaurant tasting and pairing wines. He met his wife, Angela and the pair started smoking cigars together on occasion. Both shared a passion for travel, so they invested in a Land Rover and hooked it up for safari type travel. Being the adventurers they are, they shipped the Land Rover to Europe and drove it through Europe, the Mediterranean and down to Africa. That’s correct: They drove a safari Land Rover to Africa! Over the next 5 years, they bought and ran a bar on a remote beach catering to locals and travelers, had a child, survived malaria four times, witnessed local revolts, animal stampedes, and much much more, all without a translator. After 5 years, in consideration of their child, they moved to Denver into a 2 bedroom apartment in a good part of town, but HATED being back in civilization.

They then traveled to Central America where they set up shop as off roading tour guides. At this point, cigars became a regular part of their lifestyle, so they began giving tours of cigar factories as well, which ultimately led to them to creating their own brand. They spent all their hard earned money picking all the finest tobaccos for the blend, purchased bulk tobacco and shipped it to the factory. The factory then sold the good tobacco out the back door and replaced it with crap for BLTC. And just like that, the whole thing fell apart. In case you have not gathered from the back story, these aren’t people who give up in the face of adversity. Instead of saving up and buying more tobacco, they worked harder and saved up and bought a damn factory. How impressive is that? By the way, James is also an artist who does all the art work and packaging for the brand. Talk about vertical integration. I’m simply in awe of this family.

Let’s thank the Brown family for their journey that brought us these fine cigars on instagram @blacklabeltradingco
