Edgar Hoill EH Vida Prensado Aged 5 Years

(1 customer review)

$10.00

Tasting Notes: On the body, sweet buttery chocolate, cocoa butter. Cold draw was southern sweet tea, a salty aftertaste. On the foot, more cocoa butter. (The shape is different. The top is more like a finger shape toro rather than figurado. Thought it was worth noting.) First third, the draw is perfect. Graham cracker sweetness. Black pepper retrohale, french toast sweetness, Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Light roast coffee with sugar. Nutmeg freshly grated. Smoke texture is velvety. Underlying notes of oaky wood. On the second third, some warm florals kick in, like dried hibiscus. Retrohale is more white peppery, less intense. Slightly more mellow. Smoke texture is more rich and abundant. Dried apricot. Candied pecan. Deeper caramel, almost burnt caramel (in a nice way). Even though some of the flavors are darker, it has a bubbly lightness too. Reminds me of a cola. Third third, black pepper is back on retrohale! Very dynamic cigar! Sweet Teriyaki note comes in, hickory sweetness. The sweets from the first third and the dried fruit/florals from the second third mend together towards the end. Left with a cedar sweet, cereal-like note at the end.

Pairing Notes: Caramel, cognac, coffee with hazelnut flavor. A good red wine will work with this. A lager or porter beer, lamb chops, mild cheese with crackers, and a milk chocolate candy or a slice of apple pie.

Description

Edgar Hoill is a professional photographer who focuses on Mexican gang and tattoo culture. He partnered with the CLE company to
make this cigar at their farm in Honduras. This cigar was released after the success of OSOK. He created the brand with the help of Matt Booth. Matt and Edgar had a falling out and this is one of the cigars that came after. Apparently, the artwork used on the box ended up in a lawsuit that pretty much ended the collaboration and business deal between the photographer and CLE. The boxes had to be painted black to blackout the art that originally graced its top. This hindered their ability to sell the cigars and caused problems, so the cigars sat in an aging room at a warehouse in Miami…until one day I called CLE about another cigar and they explained this story and made them available to the worlds first RARE cigar club— that’s us :). This is the kind of find that makes me proud. I hope it makes the experience more enjoyable for you as well. When we received the boxes, I noticed the black paint was thick and shiny, confirming their story even further. When I opened the box I was hit with the smell of a bourbon barrel. Like a wet charred oak barrel soaked in bourbon, it’s something reminiscent of what you’d smell on a distillery tour. Then I looked at the size and construction and noticed how wonky the shape is…Turns out this was supposed to be box-pressed. In fact, my contact at CLE has never seen one that wasn’t box-pressed. Almost as though they did not use a cigar mold..it seems very hand made and not perfect, which I really like. Then I smoked the cigar…
