La Lealtad Toro Box-Press Aged 5+ Years

$12.00

6×54

I was not lying when I said this is the year of age. It’s very rare that people have access to professionally aged cigars but #weareprivada. I found this cigar about 3 years ago. I was working with a guy in Tampa Named Jorge who owns Tampeño Cigars and works with multiple factories across Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. He was formerly with another brand called Geronimo which some of you may remember as Jorge was responsible for creating the Dunkin blend. This is not a cigar that he made for his company but one he found in a small factory in Jalapa Nicaragua. Thankfully Jorge called us first. Privada was already known for sourcing aged cigars at this point and he thought it was a home run fit for us. I loved the cigar. It was a little rough around the edges back then but I knew with time, and pro aging, this could be a special stick. Most cigars that come direct from the factory are exposed to high levels of humidity the moment they leave the aging rooms. Tropical climates and rain half the year make it near impossible to keep a cigar at peak smoking condition. 2 years at the factory and 3 years with us, using the Privada Method of two way humidity packs and coolers. And without further adieu, I give you the La Lealtad. P.S. this may be packaged under DEADSTOCK Cigar Company when they are sold in the shop. Deadstock is how we package aged cigars that were made for other brands in our online shop.

Description

Wrapper: Cuban Seed Corojo Grown in Esteli Nicaragua
Binder: Cuban Seed Corojo Grown in Esteli Nicaragua
Fillers: Cuban Seed Nicaraguan Grown Condega, Jalapa and Esteli

Body: Eucalyptus and barnyard.
Foot: Menthol tobacco.
Cold Draw: Red rich tobacco, scotch, and leather with a lemon finish.

Tasting Notes: The first third is wheat toast, butter, apricot jam, peaty smoke that reminds me of peated scotch, black pepper, lemon balm finish on the tongue. Dry yet rich smoke that also leaves the tongue tingling and moist. The retro is also toasty with cedar aging room notes, salt, black pepper, and an aged dark Habano flavor I cannot place it’s sort of like a roasted sesame seed. Further in I get beautiful dried fruit notes. The age is showing on this. It’s important to age Nicaraguan tobacco in order to get it into a range of sensations and flavors that could be compared to Cuban in any way. In the second third there’s a flavor I sometime describe as clay. Other times as fruity clay. Other times as strawberry Laffy Taffy. This cigar has that. The lemon finish is dessert like. The black pepper calmed down. It’s still peaty but only slightly. The smoke became creamier but still has a dryness that is negated by the finish that makes you salivate just enough to stay moist. To call this balanced is an understatement. Fruity, zingy, smooth, tangy. You cannot get flavors like this out of most tobaccos. In the final third the entire smoking experience melds and mends into one thing. I could try to break it down by flavor and sensation but it becomes one and this is the true meaning of balance and in my opinion can only come with the perfect amount of professional post production age which is what Privada specializes in.

Pairing Notes: Earl grey tea with lemon, chamomile tea with honey, peated scotch, cognac, steak, steak au poivre, dried cranberries, dried mango, rum and coke, Coca-  Cola.
