Chapter 1 ~Uncaged~
Chicago (Autumn 1958)
This is where I cut my teeth with the old man. My father was the last of his kind, a dying breed leftover from the washed out “mobsters” of the Prohibition era lifestyle. He still spoke with that hushed reverence required by those who chose this lifestyle; always teetering on losing his cool without losing the ability to stay cool. He knew his place and taught me mine.
During a crisp fall night last year he finally met his maker, while I was doing my dime, unavailable and unaware. A wave of anger and bitterness swept over me from inside my cell – I wasn’t there to protect him. But that’s in the past, what is done is done and those memories are starting to fade.As I step outside the prison walls and take in that first hit of freedom since ’48 my memories turn to stone. I owe some people a visit, and some of them need to pay – I will collect for what they took from me. The wrought iron bars are no more and now is the time for me to make him proud but I cannot do it alone. I need my team, my family…my Misfits!
