Description
Body: Barnyard and hay.
Foot: Chocolate and barnyard.
Cold Draw: Milk chocolate, apricot, red pepper, cola nut.
Tasting Notes: In the first third I am greeted by milk chocolate, cedar, pink pepper (try it), and candied ginger. The smoke is powdery and makes for a well-rounded retrohale that is just peppery enough to satisfy, while adding a ton of nuances to the smoking experience. It is sweet, earthy, and herby. Probably great for after a hearty Italian meal or even good pizza.
In the second third, I start getting a tinge of lemon juice on the taste buds. The herbs have gone from background to foreground and taste of oregano. The wood is mingling with the herbs and creating a flavor that tastes like a beautiful yet matured aging room smells. This is a nuanced and beautiful smoke that has unique flavors being tossed around in powdery smoke with a white pepper finish and tiny hints of dried fruits. The wood reminds me of a fresh bourbon barrel further in, and the herbs now have a pepper-like effect on the retro. I just got a phantom flavor of grape..interesting.
In the final third, I’m getting black tea with honey and lemon. The white pepper is in the mix, but the herbs seem to have turned into a beautiful earthiness. The wood has turned from cedar to cedar and oak. I imagine this would be wonderful with a red wine or a sour beer. Maybe even kombucha. Further in, the herbs are back along with white pepper and ooh that lemon is sweet. Tea and lemon all the way.
Pairing Notes: Sour beer. Kombucha. Medium roast coffee. S’mores. Shrimp scampi. Pizza. Orange Pekoe black tea. Mango water ice. Cognac.
