Papo El Caballo

Papo, Master Blender along with Jonas Santana for Black Bird Cigar Co. Formerly Davidoff's number one and legendary roller. Papo is nicknamed "The Horse" because he holds the record for the most amount of cigars rolled in an 8-hour shift, which is 500! Papo has a very nontraditional blending style. His cigars are not noticeably Dominican. Jonas tells me he blends like this as to not disrespect the other master blenders of the Dominican Republic. This may be the first time you hear of Papo's legend, but it will certainly not be the last.

The first offering from El Caballo is a sumptuous and warmly spiced robusto. The thing that makes this cigar so impressive is it’s unique range of spices and herbs. I can not name another cigar that tastes like this one. We are lucky and blessed to be able to smoke this. 40 years in the cigar industry makes Papo one of the most seasoned master blenders that Privada Experience offers, and based on this cigar, that seasoned time shows.

1st Third

Apricot, oak, cream, and white pepper take the foreground of this easy-to-smoke Robusto. While black licorice and warm cumin take the back seat. Some puffs remind me of chocolate malt followed by oregano.

2nd Third

In the second third things are getting even warmer with mustard seed, cream, oak, and warm cumin. I get allspice in the retrohale, and I must say this cigar is culinary.

Final Third

In the final third, I am still getting mustard seed, allspice, cream, and oak. But there are flavors I find hard to describe like fruited teas and herbs. There is also milk chocolate as well.
