Tasting Notes: In the first third of the Royal Affair I am met with black pepper, cedar, cocoa powder, and powdered sugar. I receive cayenne pepper in the retro-hale and chocolate, cream, leather, cinnamon, sugar, and a tiny bit of tamarind as the cigar progresses.
In the second third, you will find that the cream and tamarind are the stars of the show along with cedar and powdered sugar. All the while the cayenne still zips the palate and black pepper regulates the retro-hale. Further in I am reminded of beautiful honey-roasted nuts.
In the final third, I see the roasted nuts turn less honey-coated, more tamarind, cedar, and black pepper along with creamy smoke and a cinnamon finish.
Pairing Notes: Milk chocolate a half hour prior to smoking. Whiskey of any kind, but particularly Bourbon. Thai food. Thai tea with cream. Fruit tart. Peach. Snapple. Honey roasted nuts.
