The Black Cat By J.C. Newman Aged 4+ Years

(2 customer reviews)

$12.00

In the Connecticut River Valley, four October ago, the land was plagued with torrential downpours of epic proportions.  A crop of Broadleaf lay to suffer while the entire tobacco farming community of the area became haunted by its conditions.  Set to harvest, this tobacco would require painstaking care as it grew thicker, wilder, and more potent than in years of the past.  Requiring additional months of curing, an additional year of fermenting, and twice the costs of a typical annual yield, this tobacco was shipped off to Nicaragua in hopes that the curse of its seeds would be forever rid of the fertile soils of the valley.  When it arrived in Nicaragua at J.C. Newman’s newly opened factory, TABSA, it once again created chaos for its owners.  No blender could find the right mix of tobacco to make this wrapper burn.  It would be another six months before the recipe was discovered, one day while an apprentice roller used the wrapper in place of a very famous cigar by mistake.  The result is Black Cat.  One of the richest, boldest, cigars known to man and only available to the Privada Cigar Club members.

Description

Body: Rawhide, dark chocolate.
Foot: Hot chocolate.
Cold Draw: Fresh cut cedar, red pepper, minerals, earth, vegetal.

Tasting Notes: In the first third I am hit with rich cocoa, red pepper, and slight white sugar all packed into a creamy rich smoke.  The retrohale has red pepper and candied ginger.  I get a phantom flavor of a ripe juicy peach.  Further in I get notes of peach candy, chocolate, dried cherries, golden raisins, cream, oak, and black pepper.  Something reminds me of chocolate-covered cherries.

In the second third, I get chocolate, root beer hints, white pepper, and condensed milk in the sweetness and smoke texture.  I pick up other phantom flavors of sweet hot chocolate with marshmallows.

In the final third, I get satisfying flavors of cocoa, oak, dried fruits, white pepper, cream, earth, and cherry coke.  Wow, this was a flavor excursion.

Pairing Notes: Cella’s chocolate-covered cherries.  Chocolate stout or chocolate porter beers.  Root beer.  Cherry Coke.
