Privada Storytelling

Fuego has been here before.

In years past, Fuego was a box pressed Connecticut made with some of the finest tobaccos we could get our hands on. It was strong, spicy, and for some smokers, maybe a little too much.

Now Fuego is changing.

This is the pre release of Fuego Maduro, a darker interpretation built around Mexican San Andrés Negro from the Turrent family, people who understand this tobacco as well as anyone.

Underneath that wrapper is a Colombian binder with Brazilian and Estelí fillers. A.J. Fernandez gathered the rest of the blend himself, using tobacco grown by him along with tobacco selected through his own eye and palate.

Then we waited.

These cigars sat for a year and a half while the tobacco settled, matured, and began working together.

Now they are ready.

The final production version will most likely move to a 6 x 54. This 5 x 54 is your first look at what Fuego is becoming.

Not the finished cigar.

The beginning of it.

Flavor Journey

The first third opens with chocolate, leather, raspberry jam, and red pepper. Cream begins to build underneath while cedar keeps the profile grounded.

In the second third, the fruit becomes richer. Chocolate covered berries move forward with red pepper and velvety cream while the cedar gradually develops into oak.

The final third brings berries, florals, woods, and leather together. The profile becomes deeper and more integrated, finishing with the kind of rich creaminess that shows what a year and a half of rest can do for a blend.

Why It Belongs in Privada

This is exactly the kind of cigar Privada was created for.

You are not smoking the finished retail version of Fuego Maduro. You are smoking the cigar while it is still becoming what it will eventually be.

That gives members a chance to experience the blend at a stage most cigar smokers never see.

A Mexican San Andrés wrapper from the Turrent family. A.J. Fernandez selected tobaccos underneath it. A year and a half of aging. And a format that may change before the final cigar ever reaches production.

It is a snapshot of the process before the process is finished.

Production Notes

Fuego Maduro Pre Release #092628 was produced at Tabacalera Annex in a 5 x 54 Toro format.

According to the tasting card, A.J. Fernandez gathered the tobaccos used underneath the wrapper, including tobacco he grew himself and tobacco he personally selected.

The final production version is expected to move toward a 6 x 54 format, making this release an early look at the future of Fuego Maduro.
