Big Brown/Big Snuff Aged 7+ Years

$10.00

6×54

Chico Rivas, Master Blender, Dominican, Talented. Chico is one of those people that was elevated by the club in the last year or two. Be proud of that. He deserved success and people tried to hide him and take credit for his work. This is the story of most blenders, my friends. Even factory owners often do not blend. There is always that guy in the back that is the cousin of a friend of the guy who owns the place. And he is actually the one making the cigars. Rarely does that person get a chance to shine. I’m proud to be a part of that and you should be too. But Chico deserved it because he brought the goods. I mean take this cigar for example: Seven years aged in his factory and originally made for a client who pissed Chico the heck off. Another thing I love about Chico is his take no crap attitude. Chico has been known to throw a few people out every now and then.

When you light this cigar the age will show itself. The sensation of bitter espresso, the flavor of coffee and the finish of fruits and spices do not appear all at once, but by the second third you are wondering how a cigar could be so complex. Well hot damn I’m proud of this one. As for the name, we call it Big Snuff, or Snuffy. It was originally part of the COLOR SERIES but has been resting in coolers for what feels like ages. Description

Wrapper: Montenegro Plata San Vicente
Binder: Piloto Cubano
Fillers: San Vicente, Piloto, Olor, and Havana 200

Body: Purple floral.
Foot: Purple floral and black tea.
Cold Draw: Floral, chocolate, peanut butter.

Tasting Notes: The first third is cocoa, oats, floral, oak, and Special K cereal. There is a powdery cocoa in the smoke, which makes it gentle on the palate, yet medium/full in flavor. Bitter chocolate, raisins, and light black pepper are introduced within minutes. Further in I get spiced fruits, which adds an interesting complexity. Towards the end of the first third, I find a deliciously salty, powdery smoke, heated fruit twang, which reminds me of a spiced mango. There is a red pepper finish along with lime. This will pair well with a margarita.

The second third still reminds me of a proper margarita with salt and lime. The smoke texture is oaky with light black pepper and sweet, like cotton candy. The retrohale is also powdery but leaves a strong black pepper in the sinus. Lime is still prevalent! Cocoa creeps in at the midway point and takes this from sweet and tangy to tangy and rich. Wow.

Lemons, sesame seed, cocoa and oak start off the final third while black pepper bites me slightly on the finish. Creamy smoke now flows in abundance while the retrohale sees bitter chocolate, sugar, cream and a lot of black pepper. Take lemon pepper, add a little chocolate and oak and you have the Big Snuff!

Pairing Notes: Black coffee, raisins, warm chocolate cake, bourbon, bundt cake, chocolate covered cherries, dried mango, chocolate mouse
