Description
Body: Natural habano tobacco.
Foot: Faint tobacco and chocolate.
Cold Draw: Caramel, milk chocolate, and nougat, sort of like Twix plus salt and a slight red pepper.
Tasting Notes: The first third is toasted sesame seed, oak, cream, and golden habano tobacco which I will relate to golden cereal grain, like a Honeycomb. There are Italian dried herbs and a slight twang of a dried peach on the finish. The smoke is creamy and the retrohale is black pepper, dried currant, and oak.
In the second third, the oak is front and center, behind it is a semi-sweet apricot jam along with white pepper on the palate, white toast, and those Italian herbs. The smoke texture is creamy, but also leaves a nice minerality in the mouth. The finish is oak and black pepper. The retro is where it becomes dynamic. I get a blast of strong white pepper, but a fruit note I would describe as blackberry. The age is showing maturity by way of smoothness and balance. At the end of the second third, the body flavors catch up with the retro and it becomes much fruitier. I wonder if that fruitiness would have been closer to the first third had we not aged it?
The final third brings raspberry, butterscotch, white pepper, wheat toast, apricot zing on the finish, lemon candy flavor, almost lemons with black tea and honey, the smoke is still creamy. The retro is more white pepper now, and powdery. The finish is lemon zinger black pepper and oak.
Pairing Notes: Highlands scotch, peach tea, Spanish red wines, cream soda, blackberries an hour prior, special k, coffee cake, coffee ice cream, light roast coffee.
