Wrapper: Ecuadorian Habano Rosado

Binder: Mexican

Filler: Nicaraguan

Brought to you by Steve Saka’s Dunbarton Tobacco and Trust, Sobremesa features a dark Ecuadorian Habano Rosado wrapper over a Mexican binder and beautiful Nicaraguan and Pennsylvania broadleaf ligero fillers.  An extremely relaxing medium-plus bodied smoke that almost seems to insist on being smoked with friends after a meal.  The dominant notes are creamy coffee and dark chocolate with a spicy green chili in the background that reminds me of Mexican dark chocolate.  Add some cedar and dark cherry, and you have the immensely satisfying Sobremesa.

First couple draws have notes of thai chili, soy and fish sauces, peanuts and rice flour. Retrohale reminds me of a vegetable spring roll dipped in a Thai style sauce. Im not kidding. 1/3 Sweet, umami, creamy, moving into thai dipping sauce to put it short, and finishes with notes of a spiced latte. 2/3 Thai dipping sauce up front, middle has notes of ice cream, finishes with a mild espresso and lingering Ghana dark chocolate. 3/3 Cafe latte up front, mild Ghana dark chocolate and cake icing middle, and finishes with an umami situation. Retrohale is still consistent with Thai dipping sauce. Wow. Ashes about an inch, draw is loose, on the lighter body side yet full flavor. Smoke time roughly 1.25 hrs. Pairs well with a highly vanillin bourbon such as Four Roses Single Barrel. I would buy boxes of this stick.

The 1st third starts off with a cinnamon spice that I get on the retro. The draw flavours are milk chocolate and a vanilla wafer. The finish is a light tobacco.
10 minutes in and a cherry note has appeared on the finish along with some floral notes through the draw.

In the 2nd third I’m picking up a mild cream coffee flavour. The milk chocolate and cherry are still in the background, the vanilla has gone.

The final third drops the cherry and chocolate. The coffee has developed into a nice roast coffee. I’m also picking up earth as it heats up.
