Wrapper: Brazilian Norte Mata Fina
Binder: Costa Rican
Fillers: Costa Rican, Nicaraguan, Dominican
Body: Sweet hay.
Foot: Hay, oats and honey.
Cold Draw: Cereal grains and floral notes
Tasting Notes: The cigar opens up with a mix of sarsaparilla, thyme, and rye bread flavors that are complemented by the subtle sweetness of vanilla and powdered sugar. The foot’s hay and oats notes are replaced by wood chips and a hint of white peppercorn that lingers on the palate. On the retrohale, there’s a spicy kick of red pepper that adds depth to the overall profile.
As the cigar progresses in the next third, the flavors begin to meld together, creating a culinary experience reminiscent of a pasta and oil dish with hints of oregano, brie cheese, and lemon. The vanilla note transforms into a subtle sweet cream note, and freeze-dried strawberries emerge towards the end of this third. Dry cedar wood notes also make an appearance.
The final third brings about the perfect balance of strawberries and cream, with a shortbread finish that’s reminiscent of a classic strawberry shortcake. The herbaceous notes persist throughout this third, with a touch of citrus zest and salt popping up towards the end. The last few puffs deliver a pleasant surprise of sourdough bread and light roast coffee.
Pairing Notes: French bread, brie cheese, Spanish red wines, root beer, vanilla chai tea, coganc/brandy, anything strawberry or strawberry flavored, chocolates of all kinds.
