First, it rested in Privada’s aging coolers for two years. Slow, controlled, deliberate. Then it moved into an ex Jefferson’s bourbon barrel for a full year, allowing the wood, the char, and the residual spirit to interact with the tobacco. After that, it went back into the coolers for another two years to let everything settle and integrate. Five years of movement.Five years of restraint. This is one of the very few cigars Brian will actually say he “finished.” Not blended. Not created. Finished. The Connecticut Broadleaf drives the body. Thick, rich, and naturally sweet. The Sumatra binder adds structure, while the Estelí core keeps the cigar grounded with strength and spice. And then there is the barrel. Not overpowering. Not artificial. At first, I wanted it to be released under J.C. Newman, but they politely declined, saying it wouldn’t be the right look. So I did what we always do at Privada: I created something bold, personal, and unapologetic. The band, inspired by the legendary Beverly Hills Hotel, was my amateur Photoshop project, but it symbolized everything this cigar stood for: indulgence, glamour, and the pursuit of life’s finer things. Some members got upset, wanting only other brands, not “ours.” But the truth remains—Privada is not a brand. Privada is the curator, the storyteller, the finder of the rarest leaves and the boldest blends. And this cigar? It’s a showcase of Connecticut Broadleaf tobacco that has been cultivated for over a century—a leaf with history, depth, and soul. Made at the Newmans’ Nicaraguan factory, this rendition of The Good Life may be the best yet. Aged for over a year and a half, it brings out everything Broadleaf was meant to be: funky, flavorful, and unforgettable. Flavor Journey First Third: Bursts of chocolate, peanuts, cream, red pepper, and sarsaparilla. A salty, peppery texture lays the groundwork, joined by baked bread, sesame, and a subtle red berry tang. Second Third: Golden honey and milky chocolate take center stage, layered with white pepper, sweet syrup, Raisinets, and cedar. A nostalgic note of Smarties candy creeps in, playful and unexpected. Final Third: The finale is floral and complex, with raspberry, raisin bread, passionfruit, tart fruit, horseradish, and chocolate weaving together. A bold raisin retrohale underscores this cigar’s complexity. Why It Belongs in Privada This cigar is a statement of identity.
