Others become great because someone had the patience to leave them alone. Eladio Experience is both. This cigar was made by Eladio Díaz shortly after he left Davidoff and opened Tabacalera Díaz Cabrera with his family. Eladio spent nearly 40 years helping shape the style associated with Davidoff before eventually opening his own factory. Originally, this cigar was intended for our Experience Program. That project never moved forward, which explains the unfinished band. So we put the cigars away. Nearly four years passed before we went back and smoked one. That changed everything. We already knew what Eladio could do with Connecticut tobacco. The Orchid, the first Connecticut he made for us after leaving Davidoff, proved that. But this cigar went somewhere even more interesting. It carries the elegance and refinement we associate with classic Dominican Connecticut cigars, but with more body, more depth, and none of the bitterness that can sometimes appear in the style. Sometimes the missing ingredient in a blend is not another tobacco. Sometimes it is time. Flavor Journey The first third begins with powdery, velvety smoke that immediately coats the palate. Toasted almonds, sweet cream, and soft cedar lead while a thin ribbon of black pepper moves through the retrohale. The mouthfeel is rich and balanced, with the kind of refined character that makes the cigar feel familiar while still offering more weight and depth than a traditional mild Connecticut profile. In the second third, dried raspberry joins graham cracker, sweet cream, smoked cedar, citrus zest, and black pepper. The cigar continues building complexity while remaining elegant and composed. The final third brings smoky oak, cream, toasted rice, black pepper, and bright dried fruit. The richness deepens while the fruit becomes more vibrant, showing just how dramatically four years of age transformed the cigar. Why It Belongs in Privada Eladio Experience is a perfect example of why aging and access matter. This cigar came from one of the most experienced Dominican cigar makers in the industry during a very specific moment in his career, shortly after leaving Davidoff and beginning his own factory with his family. Then the original project disappeared. Instead of forcing the cigars into another release, we let them rest. Four years later, they became something better than what we originally expected. There is history behind the tobacco, history behind the person who made it, and years of development that could not have been rushed. The cigar was originally produced for Privada's Experience Program but was never released through that project. The cigars were instead placed into Privada's coolers and aged for nearly four years. Übermut is one of them. The name means bold confidence in German, but this cigar was not originally blended specifically for German Engineered Cigars. It was discovered inside Privada's collection of more than three million cigars resting in our aging coolers and selected for this collaboration using the Privada Method. The blend itself was created years ago by one of the true masters of the cigar industry. Because of legal concerns, we cannot disclose who blended it, but this exact blend was specifically requested years ago and somehow eventually found its way into our collection. Then it sat. Eight years ago, these cigars were tucked away in the coolers. For a long time we hesitated to release them because the draw was firmer than what we thought our members would enjoy. That turned out to be part of what makes the cigar so interesting. A firmer draw slows everything down. The burn becomes more deliberate. The tobacco has time to reveal itself gradually instead of throwing everything at you at once. After eight years, the flavor is dense, layered, and remarkably developed. This is the kind of cigar that reminds us why Privada exists. You are not likely to walk into a store and find an eight year aged all Aganorsa Nicaraguan puro from an earlier era of Tabacos Tropical sitting on the shelf. Sometimes the best cigars are the ones that were almost forgotten. Flavor Journey The first third opens immediately with milk chocolate, caramel, roasted peanuts, salted peanuts, red pepper, cedar, and thick creamy smoke. On the retrohale, black pepper appears alongside a savory grilled steak character that gives the sweetness much more depth. In the second third, the core remains intact. Chocolate, caramel, peanuts, salt, cedar, and cream continue while a brighter fruit sweetness begins developing underneath. Apricot jam starts working its way through the nuttiness as black pepper continues framing the profile. The final third takes that fruit in another direction. The apricot character transforms toward amaretto while almond becomes increasingly pronounced. Red pepper develops into warming cayenne while chocolate, cedar, and dense creamy smoke remain present through the finish. The cigar also features a black Übermut foot band containing an embedded RFID chip that connects to German Engineered Cigars and the story surrounding the collaboration. Its slightly firmer draw is intentional to the experience, encouraging a slower smoking pace while allowing the aged tobacco to develop gradually throughout the cigar. In years past, Fuego was a box pressed Connecticut made with some of the finest tobaccos we could get our hands on. It was strong, spicy, and for some smokers, maybe a little too much. Now Fuego is changing. This is the pre release of Fuego Maduro, a darker interpretation built around Mexican San Andrés Negro from the Turrent family, people who understand this tobacco as well as anyone. Underneath that wrapper is a Colombian binder with Brazilian and Estelí fillers. A.J. Fernandez gathered the rest of the blend himself, using tobacco grown by him along with tobacco selected through his own eye and palate. Then we waited. These cigars sat for a year and a half while the tobacco settled, matured, and began working together. Now they are ready. The final production version will most likely move to a 6 x 54. This 5 x 54 is your first look at what Fuego is becoming. Not the finished cigar. The beginning of it. Flavor Journey The first third opens with chocolate, leather, raspberry jam, and red pepper. Most cigar smokers know Nicaragua. Plenty know Honduras. Far fewer understand how much interesting tobacco has quietly passed through Costa Rica over the years. This cigar comes from a factory that owns farmland, imports tobacco, rolls cigars, and has always done things its own way. Some of the cigars coming from there have been incredible. Some of our favorite cigars have come from this operation, including the original Cuban Link and its follow up release. D'Crossier also spent time there before eventually moving production. The goal was to respect the Laguito No. 1 tradition while showing what Costa Rica could produce when nobody was paying attention. They delivered. The cigars went into our coolers and stayed there. Over the years we smoked them periodically and watched them change. Some cigars simply become older. Some become better. These did both. Today they are exactly where they need to be. Thin, elegant, flavorful, and mature. A reminder of why smaller ring gauges survived for generations before the cigar market became obsessed with bigger cigars. Make the best cigar you possibly can. Not the strongest cigar. Not the cigar that sells the fastest. Not the cigar designed around the biggest profit. The most flawless cigar. For Honduras, that call went to Christian Eiroa. A lot of cigar smokers know Christian through Camacho, but his connection to Honduran Corojo goes much deeper. He spent much of his life working with Corojo tobacco and helping establish Jamastrán as one of the most respected tobacco growing regions in the world. Long before Jamastrán became known for cigars, it was simply a valley. Corn, beans, coffee, cattle, and tobacco shared the same soil. Tobacco was not yet king. It was another crop grown by families trying to make a living in a beautiful part of Honduras near the Nicaraguan border. Then Cuban seed arrived. Generations of farmers began learning what that valley could do. Today Jamastrán is discussed with the kind of respect normally reserved for famous wine regions. Christian took tobacco his family has grown since the early 1990s and created a cigar entirely around Corojo. No tricks. No shortcuts. Just the valley speaking for itself. Flavor Journey The first third begins with charred wood, black pepper, lime zest, and cocoa. Aromatic smoke and fresh baked bread quickly follow, giving the cigar the feeling of Cuban seed expressing itself through Honduran soil. Make the most beautiful, flawless Connecticut cigar possible. But we did not want a mild cigar. We did not want a breakfast cigar. We wanted a real Nicaraguan cigar wrapped in a flawless Connecticut leaf. We told AJ that one of the things we loved about Connecticut cigars was the way pepper could work against the softer wrapper, but we also wanted the fruit notes these cigars can sometimes carry. AJ delivered. Nicaragua has not always been only about tobacco. The country once produced tremendous amounts of fruit and other crops, and sometimes a cigar has a way of reminding you of that history. There are cigars where it almost feels like the soil is speaking. The same land capable of producing tobacco can carry traces of the character associated with everything else grown there. Thankfully, the pioneers of Nicaraguan tobacco settled in Estelí because the land there was special. The same volcanic soil that helped turn Nicaragua into a tobacco powerhouse once supported countless other crops. Every once in a while, a cigar reminds you of that. AJ sent us these cigars about three and a half years ago. We put them into the Privada coolers and let time do what time does. The result is a cigar that somehow delivers pepper, cream, and strawberries at the same time. This is the kind of cigar only a Privada member gets access to. You will not find this exact cigar on the market. Not even from AJ. Flavor Journey The first third immediately brings fresh cut strawberries, cream, and red pepper. It is bright, elegant, and still unmistakably Nicaraguan. During the second third, the strawberry becomes richer while cream and cedar begin building underneath. Pepper remains present but becomes more balanced as floral notes begin drifting through the smoke. The final third softens considerably. The pepper backs away and the cigar becomes far creamier.
