They had something special tucked away: a cigar they’d been smoking for themselves, crafted with a rare pairing of Brazilian wrapper and binder over Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers. Because of FDA restrictions, this blend could never be sold under their branding. For years, it just sat there in the Dominican Republic—resting, aging, and waiting. When I saw it, I knew instantly: this was Privada material. We gave it the name The Rio, with a ribbon design inspired by Christ the Redeemer, and what we ended up with is more than just a cigar—it’s a collectible, a statement, and an experience. Aged for over four years now, this cigar has matured into something almost Padron-esque, blending rich darkness with bursts of sweetness.
